This really hit home.

I especially can relate to being in a more secluded place with your “favorite person” and then having your routines which then makes you forget about the rest of life. Of other people that are in your corner.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and own experiences around this. I loved your finishing sentence “Slow down, take time and remember it’s just running”.

These words touch on something I often think about. When we get caught up in the fast pace of double training sessions, races, and everything that revolves around running (track, in my case, rather than trail), we take for granted all the "no’s" we say to friends and family.

For us, those refusals feel natural, but for the people on the other side, they might not be so obvious—and they might hurt more than we can imagine. I often reflect on all the things I’ve turned down just to get an extra hour of rest, only to end up sitting on the couch instead of going out with friends, falling asleep at the same time anyway.

Completely agree with your phrase: “Without our people, we’d be lost. And honestly, the journey wouldn’t even be worth it.”

Absolutely. It’s so easy to get caught up in the routine, in the constant push to be better, that we don’t always realize what we’re giving up—or how those small “no’s” add up for the people around us. The reality is, running will always be there, but relationships need tending to just as much as training. Finding that balance is tough, but at the end of the day, what’s the point of the journey if we don’t have our people to share it with?
